JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN

Reporting to the Regional Operations & Maintenance Supervisor, the Electrician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical generation and control equipment, along with auxiliary equipment such as electric motors, transformers, relays and other electrical systems. Must be willing to travel extensively within the northern areas by small aircraft.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Maintain electrical systems, AC and DC, in remote Diesel Generation Stations within the region
Assist in the overhauls of diesel electric generating sets
Complete system maintenance as per Corporate standards and guidelines
Read, interpret and update electrical drawings and schematics
Perform routine tests of various electrical equipment
Administrative responsibilities such as trip reports, inventories, incident reports, work plans and materials management
Provide support and training to apprentices in all facets of the electrician trade
Provide assistance to other trades, as required

Required Qualifications include:

Journeyman Industrial Electrician Inter-Provincial Trade Certification
Experience with Allen Bradley programmable controllers
Direct experience with Diesel Plant electrical maintenance
Valid Class 5 drivers license
Familiarity with Federal and Territorial safety regulations and practices
Ability to work as a team member and adapt to changing tasks and locations
Good interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable Skills and Experience include:

Experience with VFD’s and use of AutoCAD
First Aid Certification
Experience working in remote/isolated northern/aboriginal communities
Computer skills
Adaptability and ability to work cross-culturally

Preference will be given to beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.

Hourly rate starts at $33.66. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including location allowance of $16,162.00 per annum, relocation assistance and subsidized housing.
