ASSISTANT OPERATOR – 24 Hours/Week

Reporting to the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor in Rankin Inlet with daily activities assigned by the Plant Superintendent, the Assistant Operator will assist with the operation of the Diesel Power Plant and associated systems to provide safe and reliable electrical services to customers in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Assist with operation of the diesel power plant and associated systems to ensure the provision of safe, reliable electrical service to customers
Assist with inspection of equipment and associated record keeping
Maintenance work on electrical generating equipment
Install new service drops, gather meter data, accept payments and transfer of documentation to the area accounts department
Assist with inventory management, including shipping, receiving and annual sealift
Process customer orders for new service, disconnections and changes of ownership
Provision of customer service by maintaining a good relationship with all customers in the community
Assist the Plant Superintendent with customer activities such as collections, customer service orders, installation of new service and disconnects
Performance of duties in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety and WHMIS legislation
Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications include:

Minimum Grade 10, however Grade 12 education is desirable
Valid Class 5 Nunavut Drivers License
Manual dexterity
Good customer service skills
Related mechanical or electrical experience would be an asset
Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team member

Desirable Skills and Experience include:

First Aid Certification
Experience working and living in northern communities
Adaptability and ability to work cross-culturally

Preference will be given to beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.

This is a 24 hour per week position and pay rate starts at $22.368 per hour. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including location allowance of $19,038.00.
