Powering Nunavummiut Into The Future.... Today
ABOUT NUNAVUT POWER

Nunavut Power is a crown corporation created by the Government of Nunavut. The objective of establishing an independent power corporation to provide safe, reliable, and affordable energy for Nunvummiut was met April 1, 2001. This infrastructure initiative is part of the government's long term plan to achieve self-reliance, and stronger, healthier communities.

Nunavut Power is responsible for the generation and distribution of electricity.

The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has supplied power to Nunavut under a temporary Transition Agreement from 1999 to March 31, 2001. In July of that year, the GN set up the Ikuma Work Group to consider Nunavut's energy options. The group completed its Report on November 1, 1999. It recommended that the GN use the Nunavut Power Corporation (NPC) established under the Nunavut Power Corporations Act, to meet Nunavut's future energy needs.
